About Us

Lake District Summer Music is a closely integrated International Festival and Summer School based in the heart of the English Lake District.

The unique way in which International Festival and Summer School are integrated makes LDSM one of the great training grounds for young musicians, be they beginners or young professionals.

Founded in 1984 the International Festival held every August is now one of the top classical music festivals in the United Kingdom, attracting world class performers as well as being an outlet for young musicians and rising stars to perform. Indeed in 2007 The Independent on Sunday rated the Lake District Summer Music Festival as the third best classical music festival and the sixteenth best general festival in the United Kingdom. To put that into perspective, Glastonbury was ranked twentieth!

More recently, LDSM has developed its work beyond the August Festival and Summer Schools. Our Outreach programme enables us to work with schools, in isolated rural areas and provide yet further essential opportunities to budding young musicians.

Lake District Summer Music is a registered Charity and relies on donations and fundraising to continue its work. Find out how you can help us.
