Heath Quartet & Alasdair Tait (cello) St Cuthbert's Church, Carlisle LDSM Ensemble Associate get to perform Schubert's great Cello Quintet alongside cellist Alasdair Tait The Heath Quartet, one of Britain's most exciting young ensembles, are recognised for their exceptionally committed and vibrant playing. They are currently appointed MBF Ensemble Associate of LDSM. They are joined this afternoon by Alasdair Tait, cellist with the Belcea Quartet until 2006. Alasdair has performed worldwide with many leading artists and in 2004 formed the Ulysses Ensemble, a group of international chamber musicians dedicated to works of the 20th and 21st Centuries.

The Joyful Company of Singers St Cuthbert's Church, Carlisle
Peter Broadbent (director) The Joyful Company of Singers is one of Europe's most prominent chamber choirs, renowned for its virtuosity and intensity of spirit, as well as for its wide repertoire. They are joined tonight by Madeleine Mitchell, "one of Britain's liveliest musical forces" (The Times), in a specially commissioned programme. Heejung Kim, soloist and chamber musician, is a familiar Festival artist and LDSM staff accompanist, always in demand. Programme includes ELGAR's Violin Sonata and works by VAUGHAN WILLIAMS, RAVEL, POULENC & ROXANNA PANUFNIK. |

The Royal & Škampa Quartets Kendal Parish Church Two great quartets combine in one of classical music's greatest string ensemble works Two great international quartets come together to perform Mendelssohn's ever-popular Octet – perhaps the most remarkable work ever composed by a teenager. With a shared first half of Mozart and Janáček this concert promises rare and shared delight.

VOICE OF THE FESTIVAL DAY Coronation Hall, Ulverston Joyful Company of Singers & LDSM Festival Choir The Joyful Company of Singers has gone on to acclaimed success following its victory at the first ever BBC Choir of the Year competition. They sing a popular programme of Elgar, Vaughan Williams, Poulenc and Ravel. Following morning rehearsals with eight choral societies from across the North West, the event culminates in a performance of Tallis's 40-part motet Spem in Alium. |
