RISING STARS: Mark Simpson (clarinet) Ambleside Parish Church With Ian Buckle (piano) Winner of the 2006 BBC Young Musician of the Year, Mark Simpson gives a dazzling performance with the fine pianist Ian Buckle. His technically demanding programme demonstrates the remarkable talent of this young man who is both performer and composer.

The Chilingirian Quartet Coronation Hall, Ulverston With Garfield Jackson (viola) & Alasdair Tait (cello) The Chilingirian Quartet has been LDSM's resident quartet since 1985. As a leading British quartet in demand world-wide they hold a special place with LDSM audiences. They are joined by Garfield Jackson and Alasdair Tait in Dvořák's wonderful sextet. The richness of the programme will be equalled by the richness of the performance.

Its energetic, entertaining and communicative performance style has captivated audiences in Britain and abroad. Founded in 1993 when its members were students at the Royal Academy of Music, The Galliard Ensemble has won many awards and appeared at festivals throughout Europe. The Sixteen Kendal Parish Church
"Music from the Sistine Chapel" The Sixteen is recognised as one of the world's greatest vocal ensembles with a reputation for 'clarity and beauty with dramatic intensity' in their performance of Early Music. Music from the Sistine Chapel gives a rare insight into the musical world of Papal chapels. Programme includes Allegri's Miserere, a work which had never reached beyond the Vatican until Mozart famously transcribed it after only one hearing. Rising Stars of the 21st Century Grasmere Parish Church
Nadine Livingston (soprano) Following this afternoon's 'Historic Voices', our final concert presents the exciting, emerging voices of the 21st Century to provide a memorable Festival Finale. 22-year-old soprano Nadine Livingston has won numerous prizes including the Eva Turner award and has appeared in opera, oratorio and recital in the UK. She was invited to perform in China in 2006. Christopher Turner, tenor, also 22 is the recipient of a Peter Moores Foundation Award. He has played lead roles in operas by Purcell and Stravinsky and has appeared at Cheltenham Festival under the conductor Martyn Brabbins. As a recitalist he has won the prestigious Joyce and Michael Kennedy Strauss Prize. Both Nadine and Christopher are postgraduate students at the RNCM and study with the renowned teacher Barbara Robotham. They are accompanied this evening by Duncan Glenday, who will be a familiar face to LDSM audiences. Soloist and chamber musician, Duncan is now a regular staff accompanist at LDSM. Programme includes songs by Debussy, Wolf, Strauss and Britten and operatic arias and duets by Purcell, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Puccini. Supported by Mrs Joan Whitfield and Mrs Elizabeth Gifford |
