Discovering Music
Beethoven Early & Late
Beethoven’s first and last cello sonatas are contrasted in this special event in collaboration with this popular BBC Radio 3 programme. Stephen Johnson leads the way with live musical examples played by Colin Carr and Thomas Sauer. A great way to introduce the Complete Beethoven Cello Works being performed by these two renowned musicians during their residency at LDSM in 2008.

Alasdair Tait cello
In tribute to the late Lake District Summer Music President and legendary violinist, Yehudi Menuhin, this concert showcases a new generation of talented young artists. Soloists and ensembles combine in one of this International Festival’s most popular events. Led by the Chilingirian Quartet, Yuko Inoue and Alasdair Tait, massed strings will perform Schoenberg’s early, romantic and much-loved work Verklaerte Nacht.
