The first of our series of chamber music recitals presenting the talented young instrumentalists and ensembles attending our International Summer School. The Vardanyan Quartet played to great success in Kirkby Lonsdale last year. Three of these young players return to play two of the great pieces of the string trio repertoire.

Providing inspiration for Turner, and immortalised by Ruskin – "the finest view of all England" – this church provides the setting for a concert by soloists and ensembles. LDSM Young Artists have included pianist Steven Osborne, violinist Nicola Benedetti, and The Sacconi Quartet so this series is truly the place to hear the next generation of professionals for the first time.

Seven hundred years ago, a turbulent, often violent clash of cultures and ideologies between East and West took place, primarily in the Iberian peninsular. Two of the world’s leading early music ensembles come together to perform a programme of 14th century music exploring the common ground in the musical meeting of the Arab-Andalusian and Christian traditions. Music includes a combination of dance songs from the Occitan tradition of the Troubadours, Cantigas de Santa Maria from the extraordinary court of Alfonso el Sabio in Castile, and music of the Arab Nuba whose roots lie in Andalusia.
