Meet the Composer

David Bruce

The first commission to arise out of the second 4x4 Composer Residency held in May/June 2007 comes from composer David Bruce. David has already had considerable success with his music theatre work and in addition to the LDSM commission is also working on a new work to be premiered at Carnegie Hall this autumn. In this pre-concert talk David talks about the folk idioms which influenced the work receiving its world premiere this morning.

The Sam Forrester Masterclass:
Takako Yamasaki YSV ensembles

Introduced for the first time in 2007, this special masterclass provides an opportunity to gain insight into the training of the young musicians at our Young String Venture. It is led by Takako Yamasaki, well known to LDSM audiences for her outstanding performances and violin classes. The event is dedicated to Dr Sam Forrester who, with his wife Marion, helped lay down the foundations of the student scholarship fund which so valuably supports the work of LDSM's summer school programme to this day.
