Arts Council England announcement - our response

Thursday, 31 March 2011

Lake District Summer Music is disappointed not to have been included in yesterday’s announcement of Arts Council England’s National Funding Portfolio 2012 to 2015. LDSM is a distinctive local voice for the Arts - promoting an internationally recognised ‘festival painted on the canvas of the Lake District’ and developing summer educational projects that enable us to bring unique training and opportunities to 180 young musicians each year.

Last year we were highlighted in the national press as one of the "ten truly festive festivals" in the world. Our activities are an important generator of tourism, annually attracting 10,000 attendances and have a significant impact on the economy. Just this week, LDSM is completing a programme of work in local schools which began back in November.

Despite this unwelcome news, we will counter this adversity with resolve. We will build new partnerships and pursue new long-term funding for our future. The importance of sponsorship and support of all kinds will become even greater.

We would be delighted to hear from any individual or organisation who shares our passion for live music, great musicians and developing the talented artists of tomorrow.

Meanwhile come and join us for an exciting programme of concerts and activities at our International Festival, Academy and Summer School from 29 July to 14 August 2011.
