Grange-over-Sands will be the venue for an inspiring evening of classical music on Friday, August 10, when two highly talented, international performers will be giving one of the inspiring concerts that encapsulate the essence of the Lake District Summer Music Festival (LDSM).
The event, to be staged at Victoria Hall, Grange-over-Sands, will present two LDSM favourites - Takako Yamasaki and Alexis White.
Japanese violinist, Takako Yamasaki is an international prize-winner who has captured the heart of audiences in Cumbria, in past years. She was awarded first prize at the 28th Tibor Varga International Violin Competition, at the 5th Toyko International Chamber Music Competition and at the 19th Vittorio Gui International Chamber Music Competition. She was also awarded third prize in the 45th Paganini Violin Competition, in 1998.
She began studying the violin at the age of five and completed her BA and MA at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. This was followed by a soloist diploma course at the Musikhochschule Winterthur-Zurich, where she was tutored by Professor György Pauk.
She has performed with orchestras such as the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as the Suisse Romande. Since 1995, she has given recitals in countries as far apart as Italy and South Africa.
Alexis White’s talent came to the fore when she won the 7th Noyers International Competition, in France. She has already established an international career revolving around solo recitals and chamber music engagements in the UK and throughout Europe.
She studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Royal Northern College and completed her studies with a Master of Music degree in performance from the renowned Eastman School of Music, in the USA. She is regarded as a young artist with huge promise and potential and is supported by the Countess of Munster Trust.
Yamasaki and White will present works by Beethoven, Dvo?ák, Ysaÿe, Prokofiev and Debussy, at the Grange-over-Sands concert. Tickets cost £14 for unreserved seating, with the evening, which starts at 8pm on August 10, promising to be one of the highlights of the 2007 calendar in Grange.
