Summer Music Festival in Full Swing
Thursday, 7 August 2008
The Lake District Summer Music Festival is now in full swing, and several fantastic concerts have already taken place. Successful concerts by Samyo, Chilingirian Quartet, and Gregor Horsch and Carole Presland have already wowed Festival audiences.
The Summer School is now also underway, seeing over 100 students from around the world enjoying first-rate tutorage from some of the world's most accomplished musicians. These young artists will blossom to become professional players. Previous LDSM students include violinists Nicola Benedetti and Nicolaj Znaider, cellists Alice Neary and Hannah Roberts, pianists Steven Osborne and Carole Presland and ensembles such as the Belcea and Sacconi quartets.
The Summer School students have the opportunity to become LDSM Young Artists and then perform in the Festival itself, giving audiences the chance to hear emerging artists before they become more well known.
The Festival appears to have caught the imagination of the Lake District as well, as tickets sales to visitors and tourists have been setting Festival box office records. Perhaps the usual Lake District summer weather is forcing people indoors! Tickets are selling fast, so if you are thinking about attending then don't hesitate to contact the Box Office to secure your seat or seats.
Don't forget to buy your Festival programme either, packed full of background information on the performances, composers and artists it really gives you an enhanced Festival experience. The programme is on sale at the Box Offices in Kendal and Ambleside proced just £4. Find out how to buy tickets here.
