Young String Venture
3–8 August 2008
Stimulating and fun-packed musical activities for young string players
The Aims: With chamber music at the heart of Lake District Summer Music, the accent of this non-residential course is on enjoyment and obtaining a sense of achievement in performance while enhancing playing and widening horizons. Concentration, self-discipline and team-working are needed in everyday life and are just some of the benefits young players absorb in making music together, discovering new means of communication and making new friends.
Young String Venture is open to players of all abilities and is divided into three sections:
Children’s Workshop: Beginners to Grade 4
Intermediate: Grades 4-7
Advanced: Grades 7 and above
The course timetable is designed for flexibility enabling students to participate at the right level in the musical training offered. Final allocations are at the discretion of the Course Directors.
Three cornerstones of music-making at the Young String Venture
Chamber Music
Keyskills include playing individual parts within an ensemble, aural awarenesss, learning rehearsal techniques and working together in small groups.
Orchestra
Orchestral playing builds confidence in the young musician. It encourages good sight-reading skills and the discipline needed to perform music together successfully.
Technique, Choir and Dalcroze
These sessions develop the all-round musician. Technique consolidates core skills needed during the week. Singing helps pitch sense and intonation. Dalcroze instils tempo, rhythm and phrasing.
